Summary: If you’re wondering “can dogs have melon?”, this article explores whether they are allowed or not and if melon is even good for dogs…
Can Dogs Eat Melon?
Yes, dogs can eat melon! As with all food though, it should only be shared with them in moderation.
Is Melon Good For Dogs?
Melon is packed with fibre, folate, potassium, niacin, antioxidants, and vitamins C, A, K and B6. It also has a high water content meaning it can be a great way to help rehydrate your pup on a warm day and it’s also relatively low in calories.
Because melon is a fruit, it does contain higher levels of naturally occurring sugar so you should avoid feeding dogs with diabetes melon.
PetLab Co. Pro Tip: Adding dog-safe fruit and veggies to their bowl can be a great way of boosting their fibre levels. Fibre helps maintain a healthy digestive tract and digestive system.

Melon For Dogs
When serving melon to your dog, make sure you remove the rind and only serve them the flesh of the fruit. The rinds can cause blockages in your dog’s digestive tract, are very hard for your dog to digest and can also pose a choking hazard.
Although the seeds are technically OK for a dog to consume, they can also pose a choking hazard so you may feel more comfortable removing them before offering a piece to your pup. Make sure to cut up the melon into small, bitesize chunks – again, to prevent choking.
If it’s your dog’s first time tyring a piece of melon, then keep an eye out for any adverse reactions (vomiting, diarrhoea etc.). You should do this with every new piece of food your dog is introduced to. If you spot any signs of a problem, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet.
